Small, independent craft stores often have the best prices and selection so they are worth checking out!
Want proof? In October 2026 I priced the same Distress Ink from two large Canadian retailers versus three independents, and this is what I found:
- Amazon.ca: $15.61
- Michael’s: $11.99
- Glitter & Ink: $9.49
- Scrapbook Centrale: $9.95
- Crafty Capers: $9.99
Similarly, this was the price range for a bottle of Stickles:
- Amazon.ca: $10.87–$17.38
- Michael’s: Product not available
- Two Scrapbooking Friends: $3.50
- Scrapbook Centrale: $3.75
- Crafty Capers: $3.29
Tips for shopping with smaller independents:
- Most offer free shipping for purchases above a specific threshold (generally between $75 and $150)
- Some offer local delivery so it’s worth checking if any are nearby
- Look for shops offering “Build a Box” programs — this lets you purchase items separately until you reach the free shipping threshold
- Sign up for their newsletters to hear about upcoming sales
- Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to hear about special pre-order events and classes
- Can’t find what you’re looking for? Email and ask if they can special order it. They’re often happy to help, or can recommend alternatives.
